They were heavy, you pumped out the air with the handheld machine you could buy, and no freezer burn to the food, even after months. Reynolds discontinued this item because of a lack "of customer base." I don't think they tried hard enough to get a customer base. I never saw ads. Only one of 6 grocery stores in this town carried the bags. Neither of the discount stores in my area carried them. Now people are asking outrageous prices for the bags that are left to sell. Since I'm going to have to learn to deal without them, I won't pay these prices to just put off when the end will be. Meanwhile, everyone looking for these bags needs to write Reynolds and tell them to bring the product back. The current prices for the handi VAX bags are the result. But Reynolds has announced an alternative (you can find this on the Reynolds website): "Through a new relationship with Debbie Meyer, Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealers and Debbie Meyer GeniusVac(tm) Bags may be purchased on the Home Shopping Network (HSN television) and their website. Debbie Meyer GeniusVac Bags(tm) are designed to work with Reynolds Vacuum Sealers. I do lots of cooking for the freezer and these bags work wonderfully. I also used them to freeze vegetables from the garden and fresh meat from my butcher when buying more is cheaper. However, when visiting the US this year I was unable to get more bags and on investigation discovered that they are no longer being made. I have managed to source some bags but the supplier was unable to ship them, so I had them sent to a US friend, who carried them to UK for me. What a complicated arrangement this has been. I am so sad that this great product has been withdrawn - the price was good, the device to vacuum pack was small and worked well (if you read the instructions properly) and I feel that the Reynolds company have missed a good opportunity to get ahead. If only they would reconsider their decision and go for better marketing of their excellent product. There is nothing else to match it's size,... Read more |
